Hill, Geraldine 'Gerry'

Geraldine “Gerry” Hill, 86, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a brief illness. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton, with the Rev. Lanette Sue Van officiating. Interment will be held at Garrison Cemetery in Garrison. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Geraldine LaVonne Flickinger was born Nov. 2, 1925, in Garrison to Gerald “Jerry” and Harriet E. (Wilson) Flickinger and graduated from Garrison High School. On June 24, 1945, she was united in marriage to O.K. Hill at the Garrison Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on Feb. 9, 1996.

Gerry was a member of the Legion Auxiliary, the Garrison United Methodist Church and the Garrison High School Alumni Board. For many years she served on the Garrison Cemetery Board.

She is survived by her son, Kenton (Kala) Hill of Swansea, Ill.; her daughter-in-law, Cynthia Hill of Grundy Center; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; her brothers, Delbert Flickinger of Aurora, Maurice (Joyce) Flickinger of Vinton and Duane “Dick” (Carol) Flickinger of Garrison; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, O.K., she was preceded in death by her sons, Vincent and Keavin Hill.

A memorial fund has been established.
