Hickman, David (Dave) Allen
David (Dave) Allen Hickman, 45, of 4500 Walker St. NE, Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully Sunday June 5, 2011, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, surrounded by loved ones, after a courageous battle with leukemia. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. The Rev. David Ambrosy will officiate. Burial at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Fremont Township Cemetery in Winthrop. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday where there will be a vigil service at 4 p.m.
David is survived by his parents; a brother, Joe of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Susan of Minnetonka, Minn.; and a brother, Mark (Tammy) of St. Charles, Ill.
He is also survived by two nieces, Mikaela and Alyssa Hickman; his grandmother, Eileen Kramer; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
David touched all of our lives and we will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Velma Hickman and Arnold Kramer; and his aunt Tanta and uncle Bob.
David was born on March 16, 1966, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Jim and Lois Hickman. He graduated from Kennedy High School and Kirkwood Community College. Dave was employed as a warehouse supervisor at Paetec and bartended at the Marriot.
Dave rarely met anyone who didn't eventually become a friend whether it was a co-worker, neighbor or someone in trouble. Dave made an impression on people because of his sense of humor. Once Dave became your friend, he was a friend for life. Your needs became his needs and he did anything he could think of to make someone's day.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His interests included golf, the Cubs, Packers and the Hawkeyes.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his memory.
