Hickey, Alvera E.
Alvera E. Hickey, 85, of Independence, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at the home of her daughters in Des Moines.
Surviving are six children, Cindy (Steve) Krempges, Independence, Susan and Sandra Hickey, both of Des Moines, Mark (Tina) Hickey, Cedar Rapids, Marlene (Troy) Meier, Norwalk, and John (Katelynn) Hickey, Independence; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Anna Mae Strawn, Oelwein; and two brothers, Merlin (Jeanne) Hermsen and Kenny (Florence) Hermsen, both of Independence.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John, in 1994; and two brothers, James and John Hermsen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's Catholic Church, Independence, with the Rev. Don Plamondon officiating. Burial will be at St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, where a rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. and parish vigil service held at 7 p.m.
