Hess, Miles 'Mike' Junior
Miles “Mike” Junior Hess, 81, of Marion, formerly of Anamosa, died at his home Monday, Nov. 25, 2013. The family will greet friends from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. Following the visitation, there will be graveside services at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; children, Michael (Julie) Hess of Fairibault, Minn. and Mark (Deb) Hess of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Michael (Heather) Hess Jr., Joel (Amanda) Hess, Melissa (Mike) Finn and Doug (Mariah) Hess; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Miles was born Sept. 22, 1932, the son of Miles Hess and Elva (Williams) Davis. He graduated from Marion High School in 1951. On Aug. 4, 1951, Miles was united in marriage to Ruth Vera Welton in Marion.
Miles served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was employed by the Iowa Department of Transportation for 42 years and had been a supervisor of Highway Maintenance. He was a member of the American Legion. Miles was an avid hiker, loved sports and traveling in his motor home. He never met a person he couldn't talk to.
