Hertel, Dorothy F.
Dorothy F. Hertel, 92, of South Amana, died Thursday, June 20, 2013, at Colonial Manor in Amana. Funeral Services: 2 p.m. Monday, June 24, St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Homestead with the Rev. Terry Small officiating. Burial will be in the South Amana Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo.
A memorial fund has been established.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Harold (Jeanne) Hertel of South Amana and Helen Selzer (Lial) of Homestead; three grandchildren, Scott Selzer, Neil (Rebecca) Selzer and Tim (Erica) Hertel; and five great-grandchildren, Gabriel Selzer, Adrian Selzer and Carter, Dalton and Peyton Hertel.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edgar in 1981; three brothers, Ralph, Berry and James Fowler; and three sisters, Hazel Belvins, Gladys Baugh and Mabel Clark.
Dorothy was born Jan. 7, 1921, in Guthrie, Okla., the daughter of Benjamin and Gertrude Haley Fowler. She attended school in Guthrie, Okla. She married Edgar Hertel on Oct. 19, 1938, in Kirksville, Mo. Dorothy traveled with her husband to various states.
Dorothy was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Homestead. She especially enjoyed putting complicated puzzles together and reading. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
