Herkner, Carl C.
Carl C. Herkner, 72, of Cedar Rapids, died June 18, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital following a short illness. Graveside memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in the Acacia section. The Rev. Steven Knudson of First Lutheran Church will officiate. Arrangements entrusted to Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Carl is survived by extended family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Carl Claude Herkner was born Oct. 29, 1939, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Claude W. and Ruth E. (Chapman) Herkner. He graduated from Washington High School and later attended the University of Iowa. He was proud to have been a member of the University Symphony where he played the cello. He proudly served in the United States Air Force and was employed by Kwik Way Manufacturing for many years.
He was an intelligent conversationalist and appreciated the friendship of First Lutheran.
His cat, Emmett, was a true source of comfort and love throughout his last years at home.
