Hentges, Dorothy R. 'Dot'
Dorothy R. “Dot” Hentges, 63, of 33 33rd Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, formerly of Dubuque, died suddenly Saturday morning, Aug. 29, 2009, at home. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Ghost Church, Dubuque. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque. Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., Dubuque, with a parish wake service at 7 p.m.
Dorothy was born June 19, 1946, in Dubuque, the daughter of Donald and Lorraine (Witt) Heming. Dot attended Holy Ghost School, Wahlert High School and graduated from Dubuque Senior High School. She married Robert
P. Hentges on May 18, 1968, at Holy Ghost Church in Dubuque. He preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 1990. Dot and Robert ran the Do Drop In on Central Avenue in Dubuque several years. She also worked as a manager at
Taco John's in Dubuque for over 29 years. Dot moved to Cedar Rapids in 2002 to live with her daughter and help at her day care.
Dot loved to play Euchre, Bingo, Solitaire and Red, White & Blue slot machines. She enjoyed doing puzzle books, camping and fishing. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was a “Grandma” to every little kid out there.
Survivors include a daughter, Paula (Dewayne) Willis, Cedar Rapids; two sons, Don Hentges, and Josh (Cheri) Hentges, both of Dubuque; a sister, Debbie (Ed) Ruh, Dubuque; a brother, Don Heming, Dubuque; seven grandchildren, D.J. (Leah) Willis, Robbie (Nicole Tuttle) Willis, Sondra (Blake Bauer) Willis, Zach Willis, Shaun Hentges, Abbi Hentges
and Natalee Hentges; three great-grandchildren, Keirstyn, Davin and Drake; many nieces and nephews; and four brothers-in-law, Donald “D.J.” (Diane) Hentges, Dennis (Judy) Hentges, Tom Hanson and Don Freiburger.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and four sisters, Pat, Kay, Judy and Sandy.
A Dorothy R. “Dot” Hentges Memorial Fund has been established.
