Henry William Orton, 77, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2025, following a long illness.
Born and raised in Cedar Rapids, Henry was a 1966 graduate of Jefferson High School. He dedicated much of his life to serving his community through his long and respected career as a Supervisor at the United States Post Office. Known for his strong work ethic, he made a lasting impact on those he worked with and mentored over the years. He was a proud Vietnam War Veteran and Purple Heart recipient.
Henry had a deep love for sports, especially fast pitch softball and wrestling. Whether coaching, cheering from the sidelines, or simply reminiscing about his favorite games, his passion for athletics was contagious and brought him great joy throughout his life.
He is survived by his sister, Kathy Macey; his sons, Matt Orton (Shannon), Chris Orton (Lisa), and Andrew Hanson; and his cherished grandchildren: Hunter (Tedde), Riley, Sophia, Alexandra, Boston, and Maveryk. Henry loved his family and was quick to share how proud he was of their accomplishments. His quiet strength and quirky humor will be deeply missed.
In lieu of a visitation, the family is hosting a Celebration of Life that will be held in Cedar Rapids at Big Grove Brewery & Taproom (Private Event Room), from 5-8 pm on Friday, June 20.
In honor of Henry’s memory, the family invites friends and loved ones to share stories and celebrate a life well lived—a man who loved, worked hard, laughed often, and never missed a good game.
