Henry Poppe, 89, of Monticello, died Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Funeral services are being planned for a later date.
Henry Thomas Poppe was born July 19, 1934, in Monticello, the son of Emil and Lucile (Redmond) Poppe. He attended the Frog Hollow Country School in Langworthy. On September 18, 1951 he was united in marriage to Lois Dirks at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. He was employed as a truck driver for Iowa Department of Transportation. After retirement he enjoyed driving for JETS Transportation.
He was a member of Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, and enjoyed fishing, camping, keeping his cars and truck clean and polished, going antiquing with Lois, but above all else, he enjoyed spending time with his loving family.
He is remembered by his wife of 72 years, Lois, his children Steven (Rhonda), Deborah (Robert) Gray, and Kathy (Jim) Koerperich, seven grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, a brother-in-law Melvin (Janis) Dirks, as well as by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter Kerry, his parents, and his sisters.
