HENRY "HEINIE" HOWARD MANTZ

Henry "Heinie" Howard Mantz, 92, of Keystone, Iowa, passed away peacefully at his home Sept. 25, 2018, following a battle with cancer.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Luzerne, Iowa, with the Rev. Dean Duncan officiating. Burial will take place at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Luzerne, with military honors.
Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Church and will continue one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be directed to the family. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.hrabakfuneralhome.com.
Henry was born Oct. 3, 1925, to William Wayne and Hattie Matilda (Neumann) Mantz. He attended country school until the 10th grade, when he went to work as a farmhand. Henry entered the U.S. Navy in 1945. He was stationed on the USS Kline in San Diego, Calif. Following his service, he returned home to continue his work as a farmhand. On Sept. 10, 1950, he married Darlene Mary Kramer at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Together, the couple worked hard to accomplish Henry's dream of owning his own farm.
Henry enjoyed old cars and working on them. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Luzerne, and Belle Plaine American Legion Post 39. He also was a founding member and served on the board of the Farmers 4 County Co-op.
He is survived by his four children, Linda (Ed) Wheeler of Mount Vernon Ill., Larry (Lynn) of Luzerne and Brian (Kim) and Craig (Julie), both of Belle Plaine; grandchildren, Rachel (Darric) McLeod, Abbi (Jon) Garling, Brandi (Matt) Delveau and Brandon and Kenzie Mantz; great-grandchildren, Coralou, Adley and Kaylin McLeod, Andie and Olive Garling and Charlie Delveau; and sisters, Eleanor Maas and Shirley (Loren) Witte.
Henry is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Darlene (2017); brothers, Harold, Raymond and Gaylord Mantz; and sister, Norma Dusterhoff.
