Henry “Bill” Buddenberg
Henry “Bill” Buddenberg, 72, of Castalia, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at his home. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, at Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia. The Rev. Dave Lenth will officiate. Burial will follow in Pleasantview Cemetery, Castalia. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Postville and one hour before services Wednesday at the church.
Bill was born June 2, 1938, on the family farm near Castalia, Iowa, to Melvin John and Vera Zella (Meyer) Buddenberg. Bill graduated from Ossian (Iowa) High Schoolwith the class of 1956. Bill was united in marriage to Madeline Rawson on June 1, 1960, at the U.B. Church, Castalia. Five children were born to this union. Madeline later passed away on Nov. 1, 1990. Bill was then united in marriage to Dianne Szabo Meyer on June 6, 1992, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. Bill farmed the family farm for many years and had a Vigortone dealership. He loved spending time with his family and friends.
Bill will be deeply missed by the many people who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Dianne, Castalia; four children, Randy Buddenberg, Decorah, Doug (Pam) Buddenberg, Castalia, Bruce (Julie) Buddenberg, Castalia, and Lynn (Leland) Monroe, Ossian; one stepdaughter, Jacque (Craig) Walby, Arcadia, Wis.; 11 grandchildren, Josh (Amy), Zac, Julie, Brittany (Justin), Bridget (Matt), Blake, Chanse, Cassidy, Josie, Caleb and Madelyn; three stepgrandchildren, Brandon, Jonathan and Elizabeth; three great-grandchildren, Decklyn, Beckett and Leyton; four stepgreat-grandchildren, Austin, Nolan, Lucas and Leah; and two sisters, Lolita Engelhardt, Postville, and Beverly (Bob) Cowles, Ossian.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Madeline Buddenberg; one son, Brett Buddenberg on Dec. 28, 1985; and two brothers-in-law, Earl Johnson and Oran Engelhardt.
