Hennessey, Frances Emma
Frances Emma Hennessey, 91, a lifetime resident of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, June 11, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center after a short illness. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, by the Rev. Ivan Nienhaus. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. A rosary will be recited Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home, where friends may visit from 4 to 7 p.m., and also at the church after 9 a.m. Thursday.
Frances is survived by three children, Mary (Thomas) Moran of Akron, Ohio, Kathleen (Gary) McCarty of Minneapolis and John Jr. (Deborah) Hennessey of Marion; 12 grandchildren, Kelley Moran, Molly (Joshua) Lukenbill, Casey Moran, Emily Moran, Brian (Rebecca) McCarty, Bridget (Troy) Blomer, Brandon McCarty, Elizabeth (James) Butler, Keriann, John III, Luke and Matt Hennessey; great-grandchildren, John Blomer and Emmaline Peterson; sister, Lillian Hackney of Cedar Rapids; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband, John Sr. (2009); two brothers, Frank and James Tresnak; and sister, Mary Hennessey.
Frances was born April 6, 1920, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of James and Emma (Bousek) Tresnak. She graduated from St. Wenceslaus High School, where she played basketball. Frances was one of the original members of the U.S. Homemakers Circle and held many different offices during her membership. She was also a member of Catholic Daughters of America.
Frances was a wonderful cook and enjoyed cooking and making crafts.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Everyone thought very highly of her and her willingness to help people. Frances was also a proud supporter of Camp Courageous in many ways.
Frances' family would like to thank the staff at Keystone Cedars for their wonderful care and friendship. She made many special friends there and will be missed. They would also like to thank the Mercy Medical Center and hospice staff for their care and compassion during her last week.
