Henkle, Elsie B.
Elsie B. Henkle, 97, died Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 18, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St, from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. A memorial fund has been established.
Elsie was born Jan. 10, 1916, in Bancroft to Adam and Anna (Krumm) Schueler and graduated from high school in Newhall, Iowa, in 1935.
On Jan. 24, 1946, she was united in marriage to Hollis M. Henkle at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall. He preceded her in death on Nov. 6, 1984.
Elsie served as a cook at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton for 20 years prior to her retirement. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton.
She is survived by her son, David Henkle of Vinton; her daughter, Kay (Sherman) Strootman of West Des Moines; and her grandchildren, Nicholas Strootman of West Des Moines, and Jessica Strootman and fiancé, Justin Morar, of Omaha.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers.
