Henke, Steven Arthur
IOWA CITY - Steven Arthur Henke, 62, of Chandler, Ariz., died unexpectedly Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, in his home. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 24, at 1 p.m. at The Kirkwood Room at Governor's Ridge, 515 Kirkwood Ave., Iowa City. Lensing Cremation and Funeral Service is handling arrangements.
Steven was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, on Sept. 10, 1948, to Arthur Gale and Florence Marie (Crosby) Henke. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High in 1966 and the University of Iowa in 1970 in filmmaking. He worked over a 35-year span at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio as film lab director and the University of Iowa Audiovisual Center as film editor. He retired from the university in 2004 and moved to Arizona to be warm.
He was an avid sports fan and particularly enjoyed gardening, keeping track of his investments, and communicating with his five children about their active and diverse lives.
Steve is survived by his five children, Saffron A. Henke (Eric Stone) of Davenport, Sara A. Henke of Iowa City, S. Alex Henke (Kenneth Orr) of Palos Hills, Ill., S. Adam Henke (Megan Mangelsen) of North Liberty and S. Ariana Henke (Larry Twitty Jr.) of Des Moines; two grandchildren, Alessandra Elyse Orr and Gionni Chance Twitty; former wife, Susan A. Henke; four siblings, Barbara Henke of Iowa City, Kathryn Henke of Berkeley, Calif., Douglas Henke (Virginia Determan) of Iron Mountain, Mich., and Kristen Henke (Michael Audit) of Oshkosh, Wis.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Steven A. Henke Memorial Fund.
