Hemphill, Joan T.
Joan T. Hemphill, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died Aug. 27, 2009, at Cottage Grove Place following an extended illness. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, at First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Ted Miller will officiate. Inurnment was held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Edwin; daughters, Lisa (Dave) Morris and Lori Bobenhouse, both of Cedar Rapids; and grandchildren, Adam (Courtney) Morris, Chris Morris, Andrew Bobenhouse and Sarah (Damon) Fairfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and son-in-law, Jim Bobenhouse.
Joan was born Aug. 7, 1925, in Marshalltown, the daughter of Osborne and Helen (Oliver) Thusen. She attended Coe College where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. She was united in marriage to Edwin R. Hemphill on Dec. 27, 1946, in Marshalltown. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, PEO LU Chapter, College Club, Vesterheim, many church committees, and was a volunteer at The National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library. Joan enjoyed knitting and reading. Above all, her greatest enjoyment was the time she spent with her family, especially her four beloved grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Luke's Child Protection Center, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
