HELMER T. PETERSON
Englewood, Colo.
Helmer T. "Pete" Peterson, 80, passed away peacefully and in the company of loved ones, on Sept. 6, 2021.
A Celebration of Life service was held at Horan & McConaty, Centennial, Colo., on Sept. 11, 2021. Pete asked that donations be made to either the American Diabetes Association
or to the American Lung Association, in lieu of flowers.
Helmer Peterson, son of Oscar and Durretta (Mullins) Peterson, was born Sept. 6, 1941, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was a 1959 graduate of Cedar Rapids, Thomas Jefferson High School.
He was married to Janet (Jan) Rula on Jan. 25, 1964, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They moved to Denver, Colo., in 1966 where Pete worked in the retail appliance business. They permanently relocated to Englewood in 1969. He owned his own retail appliance store and subsequently, a lumber cut shop. He retired in 2008 from Home Lumber.
I addition to being a loving husband, father and grandfather, Pete was very active in the Englewood Jaycees and enthusiastically followed his beloved Denver Broncos. In recent years, he was recognized by Bonfils Blood Center, for donating more than 10 gallons of platelets. He was also an avid online video gamer. In fact, he is currently the world record holder in the Spider Solitary game with a consecutive win streak of over 14,000 games.
Mr. Peterson is survived by his wife, Jan; two daughters, Julie (Michael) Lierley, Lafayette, Colo., and Cherie (Mark) Ricker, Centennial, Colo.; and two grandsons, Connor Lierley (20) and Evan Lierley (18), both from Lafayette, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Paul and David.
