Helene Elisabeth Van Dee, 92, peacefully departed this world on January 7, 2024, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 15, 2024, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 AM, at the chapel.
Helene, daughter of Ludwig and Katharina Schmidt, was born on May 23, 1931, in Nierderhausen, Germany. She worked as a secretary and met Vern while he was in the army. They were married in Germany and later renewed their vows in Cedar Rapids.
Helene worked at Farmstead/Wilson’s Foods for 25 years. In her retirement she loved traveling with Vern, hitting the casinos, birdwatching, and shopping with her daughters. She loved her grandchildren and spent many hours exploring nature with them.
Helene is survived by her daughters Connie (Kevin) Dolan and Nicky (Chris) Bruns, grandchildren Kaley (Nick) Konecny and Clari Bruns, great-grandchildren Maddox and Hendrix Konecny. She was preceded in death by her husband and grandchild Casey J. Dolan.
We would like to thank the staff at Stoney Point Meadows for their excellent care of mom. You filled her days with laughter, companionship, and music.
