HELEN YOUNG
Cedar Rapids
After a brief illness, Helen Margaret Murrin Young left her family and friends for heaven on April 14, 2015.
Helen was born on May 26, 1918, to Matthew and Elizabeth Murrin. She grew up in Cedar Rapids,
graduated from Roosevelt High School, married Francis (Bud) G. Young Sr., loved and raised her five children: Francis (Frank) Young Jr., Marlyce Larson, Stacie Woods, Linda Tomkins and Rene Mitchell. She enjoyed being an active grandmother to 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Our mother lived a full life managing a household filled with children, tending the family vegetable and flower garden, volunteering at St. Patrick and St. Jude parishes, enjoying the company of good friends and showing us how a little kindness impacts lives. She was a doer, not a talker. She courageously fought and survived breast and colon cancer. She was an avid neighborhood walker, loved to play cards, was a wicked dominos player, enjoyed baking rhubarb pies and could not resist stopping at garage sales. Our mother always had a positive outlook and her Irish humor and mischief would keep you on your toes. We are grateful to have had the privilege to call her our mother.
Please join us as we celebrate Helen's life on Thursday, April 23, at St. Jude Catholic Church, with visitation at 9:30 a.m., funeral service at 10:30 a.m., burial service at St. Joseph Cemetery, followed with a celebratory luncheon at St. Jude Community Center.
Please share with us your memories of Helen online at www.teahen funeralhome.com.
We would be honored if you would send a donation in Helen's name instead of sending flowers. Please give to the Sisters of Mercy of Cedar Rapids, c/o Midwest Chapter at 7262 Mercy Rd., Omaha, NE 68124, or to UnityPoint Hospice, 855 A Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402, or to a charity that is important to you.
Remember to choose happiness. And on and on it goes…
