Helen Isabelle (Bowersox) Whiting, 94, a resident of the Jefferson, Wis., Alden Estates Health Care Center, passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2017. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with service to immediately follow on Tuesday, May 30, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Graveside burial: Shueyville Cemetery, Shueyville.
Helen was born July 9, 1922, in Shueyville, Iowa, the daughter of James and Theo (Potter) Bowersox.
Helen was united in marriage to Robert E. Whiting on Dec. 16, 1948, in Waterloo, Iowa. He served with the Army Air Corps during World War II. She began working in the electronics manufacturing industry at Collins Radio, Cedar Rapids, during the 1940s and retired from Gould Inc., Racine, Wis., in 1991.
She was very fond of animals and a frequent donor to the SPCA.
Helen is survived by her three sons, Steve, Scott (Maureen) and Tom (Linda); four grandchildren, Bryan (Michelle), Miranda, Nick (Tori) and Noah; and one great-grandchild; Teagan.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, James and Theo (Potter) Bowersox; husband, Robert; two brothers, Howard and Robert; and six sisters, Lois, Grace, Irene, Lucille, Marian and Margaret.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to your local SPCA in Helen's name.
