HELEN LAING WHITE
Cedar Rapids
Helen Laing White, 88, slipped away peacefully at The Meth-Wick Community on July 6, 2016. Her beloved husband, Ken, was by her side, as he'd steadily been through all their years of marriage. She was encircled with love by Ken; her son, Tim; daughter-in-law, Michelle; and precious granddaughters, Pamela, Lizzie and Emily.
Helen was born April 13, 1928, in Rochester, Mich., to James and Martha Laing. She lived most of her life in Michigan, where she raised her family and worked for Michigan Bell and General Motors. In 2011, Helen and Ken moved to Cedar Rapids to make Meth-Wick their home. Helen never met a stranger and made new friends everywhere she went.
Helen enjoyed time with family and friends, a game of cards and a good laugh. She was the life of the party and a light to all of us. One of her favorite roles was Nanny to her granddaughters and great-grandchildren. More than anything, she treasured time with Ken, who was her sweetheart, best friend and constant companion for 68 years.
She'll be deeply missed by Ken; Tim, Michelle, Emily, Lizzie and her husband, Jon, and Pam, her husband, Joe, and their children, Cassidy and Jake; and her sister, Carol, and Carol's husband, Dell.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and a baby daughter, with whom she'll now be reunited.
Our gratitude goes to the grace-filled staff at The Woodlands who provided Helen and all of us with exceptional kindness and care.
Memorials may be made in Helen's name to the Rejuvenate Capital Campaign at www.methwick.org/charitable-giving.
Private family services will be at a later date, with inurnment at White Chapel Memorial Cemetery in Troy, Mich.
