Helen A. Vopalka, 86, a resident of Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of 193 Jacolyn Dr. NW, died Monday afternoon, May 26, 2014, at the care center. Services: 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 30, at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 Second St. SE, by the Rev. Ike Akabogu, Spirit of Faith Family Church. Burial: Saint John's Cemetery. Friends may call after 12:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Helen is survived by her sister, Agnes Okken, Cedar Rapids.
Two nieces, four nephews, two great-nieces, three great-nephews and one great-great-niece, also
survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary Emma (Pospisil) Vopalka; brothers, Adolph and Godfrey; and a great-nephew, Bruce Enos Jr.
Helen was born Aug. 16, 1927, in Cedar Rapids, and was a lifelong resident. She was a Catholic and was raised in St. Wenceslaus Church. Helen worked in the laundry department of the Montrose Hotel for 30 years, until her retirement in 1981. She loved to read and work crossword
puzzles.
A memorial fund has been established.
