Helen E. Vawter, 90, of Hazleton, died Friday, May 2, 2014, at Oelwein Care Center in Oelwein. Mass of Christian Burial: 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein, with the Rev. Paul C. McManus and Deacon Jim Patera officiating. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein. Rosary Service: 4:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Parish Scripture Service: 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment: Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein.
A memorial fund has been established for Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters.

Helen is survived by her two sons, Kenneth (Linda) Vawter of Newhall and Ronald (Shirley) Vawter of Hazleton; four grandchildren, Charity (David) Erdelt, Kelcy (Aaron) Brecht, Ryan (Shelly) Vawter and Eric Vawter; eight great-grandchildren, Dylan Erdelt, Emily Erdelt, Logan Miculinich, Cole Miculinich, Brody Brecht, Adyson Brecht, Morgan Vawter and Madelynn Vawter; and a brother, Raymond (Gladys) Bieri of Cresco.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Gerald on Oct. 13, 1993; an infant daughter; son, Michael on June 2, 2010; granddaughter, Hope Miculinich on Jan. 31, 2007; and a sister, Hermina Curtis.
