Helen M. Bednar Stark, 101, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at St. Luke's Living Center West in Cedar Rapids. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Helen was born Oct. 25, 1912, the only child of Tony and Mary Emma Bednar. While working as the elevator girl in the O.R.C. Building downtown she met Arnold H. Stark. They later married at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids on Feb. 4, 1948. A wedding breakfast for the couple was served at the Roosevelt Hotel following the ceremony. After a trip to Chicago, the couple resided on a farm near Cedar Rapids. Mr. Stark died suddenly on July 31, 1976. Helen continued to reside at the farm until she moved to the care center in November 2004.
Helen loved the birds, small animals, chocolate and the classic movie channel.
There are no immediate survivors.
Per Helen's wishes there will be no services.
