Helen P. (Hein Kleinschmidt) Falada, 97, of North Liberty, formerly of Kalona, died Thursday, June 10, 2021, at Keystone Place at Evergreen in North Liberty. A memorial Mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 26, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Richmond. Livestream will be
on the Beatty Peterseim Facebook page. Family will greet friends 30 minutes prior
to the mass. Private burial of her cremains will be at a later date at the Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Alzheimer's Association. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Helen Falada was born Sept. 30, 1923, in Iowa City, the daughter of Paul and Theresa (VeDepo) Hein. She graduated from City High in Iowa City and AIB in Des Moines. On Jan. 21, 1942, she was united in marriage to Emery Kleinschmidt in Iowa City. Emery passed away on Sept. 13, 2003. After his death, she met and married Francis G. Falada on June 30, 2007, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wellman, Iowa. Helen enjoyed music, singing, dancing, playing cards and exercise. She owned and operated Raspberry Patch Bed and Breakfast North of Kalona, was employed at the University of Iowa, American Red Cross and Franklin department store.
Survivors include four children, Marilyn (Jim) Mills of Lone Tree, Charlene Onnen of Kalona, Elaine (Garry) McCune of Cedar Rapids and Stephen Kleinschmidt of Wellman; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Leora Hein.
Preceding Helen in death were her parents, her husbands, Emery and Francis; son, Charles; four brothers, Leo, Robert, Paul and Kenneth Hein; and two grandsons, Michael and Shane.
