Helen Nielson, 91, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2015, at Anamosa Care Center following a brief illness. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 21, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, where friends may call from 3 until 5 p.m. Sunday. Pastor Carla Burge will officiate at the services. Interment will be in Antioch Cemetery, Anamosa.

Surviving are her son, Lindsay, and his fiancee, Ronda Stivers-Babinet, Anamosa; a brother, Don (Margaret) Koppenhaver,
Mount Vernon; and two sisters, Doris (Bruce) Ingels, North Little Rock, Ark., and Lois Stolte, Anamosa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fay; and a brother-in-law, Elmer Stolte.
Helen Marie Koppenhaver was born
July 11, 1924, near Morley, Iowa, the daughter of Donald E. and Della Tenley Koppenhaver. She received her early education in the Olin schools and graduated from Martelle High School in 1942. Helen continued her education at a business school in Anamosa and then became secretary to the warden at Iowa Men's
Reformatory.
Helen Koppenhaver and Fay Nielson were married April 4, 1946, at Martelle United Methodist Church. The couple farmed near Springville for several years before moving to their farm near Anamosa. Fay preceded her in death in 1999.
Helen had belonged to Home Craft and Culture Club and Circle J Square Dance Club. She loved her gardens, both flowers and vegetables.
