HELEN MCCRIGHT
Cedar Rapids
Helen M. McCright, 95, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014, at the Hiawatha Care Center following a lingering illness. A private family service will be held at a later date.
Helen Margaret Comried was born July 29, 1919, the daughter of August Comried and Gladys (Fee) Comried. She graduated from Center Point High School with the class of 1937 and then attended the American Institute of Business. She worked as a secretary until she became a homemaker to care for her family.
Helen married Gifford McCright on June 21, 1939, in Troy Mills. Together they raised three sons, Gary, Jon and Randall. They made their home in Coggon until moving to Cedar Rapids after Gifford's retirement from McCright Construction Company, which Helen and Gifford established and operated for 50 years.
Helen was a member of the United Parish Church of Coggon. She was known for her cooking and baking, was a talented artist, and above all, a mother and grandmother who was dearly loved by her family.
Helen is survived by her sons, Gary (Anne) McCright of Geneseo, Ill., Jon (Roberta) McCright of Cedar Rapids and Randall (Mindy) McCright of Cedar Rapids. She also is survived by her grandchildren: Gary's children, Erin (Aaron) Springer, Molly (Mark) Jones, Paul Burnett Jr., Thomas Burnett III, Mikayla McCright and Sydney McCright; Jon's children, Megan (David) McCright Emslie and Ian McCright; and Randy's children, Allison (Nate) Smalley-McCright, Kelly (Bryan) Stobb and Krista McCright; and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother, Richard (Judy) Comried of Dallas, Texas.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband on June 9, 1999; her parents; her two brothers, Donald Comried and Jack Comried; and her daughter-in-law, Sharon McCright.
Helen was truly a remarkable lady, who will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew and loved her.
The family asks any memorials be directed to UnityPoint Health – St. Luke's Hospital or Mercy Medical Center of Cedar Rapids in Helen's memory.
