Helen Kresnicka, 97, a longtime resident of the Cedar Rapids area, passed away Sept. 17, 2015, at Hallmar Residential Care. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21, at the funeral home as well.
Helen is survived by her children, David E. Kresnicka, M.D. (Dottie) of Marion and Julie Paulsen (Jack) of Sioux City; grandchildren, Kenneth Shotswell (Gwen), Kimberly Mailes, Lisa Spector (Jonathan) and Michael Kresnicka; and great-grandchildren, Bridgette Simpson, Alexis Shotswell, Aiden Shotswell, Katrina Shotswell, Thomas Mailes, Serena Mailes, Sophia Spector and Leo Spector.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters, Blache Uldrech, Emily Stransky and Ann Musil; and brother, Frank Sladek.
Helen was born July 7, 1918, in Chicago to Jan and Katerina (Span) Sladek. She married Edward James Kresnicka on April 13, 1940, in Cicero, Ill. She worked as a dental assistant for 20 years.
