Helen "Joan" Harris, 90, passed away Sunday, Oct. 24, 2021, at the English Valley Care Center in North English.
Joan was born Jan. 2, 1931, in North English, Iowa, the daughter of Lowell and Henrietta (Whitmore) Churchill. She graduated from North English High School in 1948. On Sept. 3, 1949, Joan was united in marriage to Larry Wayne Harris in North English. She was a lifelong farm wife and resident of North English. Joan was a member of the North English Christian Church. She worked at the English Valley Care Center for a number of years. Joan was a great cook and seamstress, but more importantly, she was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by a son, John (Gelene) Harris of Muscatine; three daughters,Linda (John) Hester of Lone Tree, Nancy (Denny) Achenbach of North English and Mary (Lester) Ott of Swisher; 12 grandchildren, Timothy (Andrea) Harris, Nicholas Harris, Joseph (Autumn) Harris, Angie Hester, Shelly (Keith Rozsell) Martin, Kelly (Rick Howell) Hester, Jody (Dave) Richards, Spencer (Brooke) Achenbach, Drew (Andrea) Achenbach, Todd (Christin) Achenbach, JoAnna (Jon) Brown and Lee (Nikki) Ott; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and three sisters-in-law, Carma Septer of Williamsburg, Mary Ann Fuller of Keswick and Mary Lou Harris of North English.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Larry, in 2019; and three brothers-in-law, Paul Septer, Dick Fuller and Jerry Harris.
A private family graveside service will be held in the North English Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the English Valley Care Center. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
