Helen Emma Jackson, 95, of Mechanicsville, died Saturday, May 23, 2015, at Prairie Hills Assisted Living, Tipton. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stanwood. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, at Chapman's in Clarence.
Helen was born in Stanwood on July 24, 1919, the daughter of Paul and Ida (Leudeman) Lehrman. She attended school in Stanwood and on Sept. 20, 1939, at the age of 20, married Buell Jackson. They were blessed to have celebrated 72 years of marriage together and operated an Iowa Century Family Farm while raising their family of five sons.
Faith, family and friends were Helen's priorities and she was very active with activities at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stanwood. Helen was a dedicated, devoted and loving housewife and mother known for being a wonderful cook and for her amazing desserts. In her formative years, Helen and her sister, Louise, sang regularly on WLS and WHO radio as well as performing to live audiences.
She was very active with the American Hereford Women and Iowa Hereford Auxiliary. In 2002, Helen was honored by the American Hereford Women as the Woman of the Year.
Helen's memory will be honored by her five children, LeRoy of Mechanicsville, Ronald (Debbie) of Marshall, Mo., Gary (Marilyn) of Mechanicsville, Arlen of Mechanicsville and Loren (Lesa) of Pipe Creek, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Buell; brother, Herbert; sisters, Louise Siebels and Alama Hansen; and her daughter-in-law, Joyce (LeRoy) Jackson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
