HELEN HEUSINKVELD Kalona Helen Joan Heusinkveld was born March 14, 1930, in Story City, Iowa, the daughter of Gerhard (Guy) and Cornelia Theodora (Jacobson) Rod. Helen was united in marriage to Edwin Heusinkveld. Helen died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2016, at Pleasantview Home in Kalona at the age of 86 years. Helen is survived by three sons, David (Gail) Heusinkveld of Kalona, John Heusinkveld of Tomahawk, Wis., and Mark Heusinkveld of Des Moines; four grandchildren, Evan (Mary Jane) Heusinkveld of Elkhart, Ind., Kari Heusinkveld of Kalona, Molly Heusinkveld of Kalona and Julianna Heusinkveld of Winona, Minn.; two great-granddaughters, Brooklyn and Zoey Heusinkveld of Elkhart; and a sister, Myrle Shaw of Story City. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ed; a sister, Glendora Proctor; and a brother, Myron Rod. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at First Mennonite Church in Iowa City, where the family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until service time. Pastor Jim Grossnickle-Batterton and chaplains John King and Dianne Brenneman will officiate. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Story City Cemetery in Story City with Pastor Dan Kuchuck officiating. Visitation will be from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at the Friendship Center at Pleasantview Home in Kalona. Instead of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for Pleasantview Home and Mosaic (Lutheran-based services for people with intellectual disabilities). www.powellfuneralhomes.com
