Helen Matilda Heitshusen passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at Mercy Iowa City at the age of 89 years.
Helen was born Aug. 2, 1925, in Iowa Township, Iowa County, the daughter Egon and Margaret (Witte)
Schwarting. Helen was baptized Aug. 25, 1925, and confirmed March 17, 1940, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She attended Immanuel Lutheran School. On June 1, 1945, Helen was united in marriage to Robert George Heitshusen at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was a lifelong resident of the Williamsburg area, living on a farm northeast of Williamsburg until moving to town in 2008.
She enjoyed playing cards, reading large print and flowers. She was member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Helen is survived by her son, Thomas (Jackie) Heitshusen of Williamsburg; her daughter, Barbara Heitshusen of Flandreau, S.D.; granddaughter, Marie Chanell; three great-grandchildren, Harmony, Alicia and Alexis Griggs; and a sister- in-law, Helen Schwarting of Williamsburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; grandson, Glen Heitshusen; and three brothers, Orville, Oren and Harold Schwarting.
Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 20, at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Williamsburg. Pastor Stuart Rethwisch will officiate. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home, Williamsburg.
