Helen M. Goin, 81, of Hiawatha, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar
Rapids, following an extended illness. Visitation will be Thursday, June 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. Services will be 9:30 a.m. Friday at First Assembly of God Church, Cedar Rapids, with Pastor Rick Gail officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Blairstown.
Helen Goin was born May 3, 1933, to Dan and Mary Olmstead Rinker. She was united in marriage to Jim Raftis on Dec. 21, 1949, and later divorced. To this union two children were born, Vicki and Bev.
Helen worked at K-Mart East for over 20 years. Helen enjoyed watching the Food Channel, Lawrence Welk and Johnny Carson. She also enjoyed playing the piano and hosting Bible studies. She was a member of ABWU and very active at First Assembly of God Church in Cedar Rapids.
She is survived by Vicki (Jerry) VanDeusen and Beverly (David) Baldridge; a brother, Don Burroughs; five grandchildren, Cara (Dan Brady) VanDeusen, Kelly (Morris) Beatty, Rachel (Derek) Leach, Dana (Stanley) Tackett and D.J. Baldridge; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Lyle Earle; and brothers, Kenneth Burroughs, Bud Burroughs, Duane Rinker and Russell Rinker.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the American Cancer Society in Helen's name.
