Helen Lucin Gates, 49, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Celebration of Life services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Brosh Chapel. A private family inurnment will be at a later date.
Helen was born Aug. 28, 1964, in Manila, Philippines, the daughter of Emilo Ty and Nemesia Lucin. She was united in marriage to Robert (Bob) Gates on March 30, 1992, in Quezon City, Philippines.
Helen is survived by her husband, Robert (Bob) Gates; son, Tyler; her mother- and father-in-law, Raymond and Patricia Gates of Independence; three sisters and one brother, Vilma Guevara, Stoke on Trent, United Kingdom, and Herminia (Amy) Duarong, Vivian Lazarte and Henry Lucin, Manila, Philippines; brother- and sister-in-law Greg and Jane Gates and Ed and Sue Gipper of Independence; 15 nieces and nephews; 12 great-nieces and nephews; and numerous friends. Helen was a member of the Filipino community.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
