Helen Roselle Fernow, 101, of Marion, died Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at Willow Gardens Care Center. A Celebration of Life service will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Marion. The Rev. Howard Chapman will officiate. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday before the service at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her son, Allen (Margaret) Fernow; grandchildren, James (Karlene) Fernow, Jane (David) Sallee, Mary Fernow and Mark (Keith) Fernow-Glasco; great-grandchildren, Ashley (Kyle) Lieske, Allen, Taylor and Zachary Fernow and Spencer Sallee; and great-great-grandsons, Lawson and Jayton Lieske.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Fernow; son, Dale Clayton Fernow; parents, Henry and Lulu; and brother, Henry (Florence) Roselle.
Helen was born Jan. 10, 1915, in Maxwell, Iowa. She was a resident of Linn County since the age of 2. She attended Van Buren Elementary in Cedar Rapids, Rose Dale rural schools, McKinley Junior High and Washington High School. She then attended the University of Iowa. She married the love of her life, Harold Fernow, on Nov. 30, 1940, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.
Helen worked for Auto Electric Shop, the Turner Co., Cedar Rapids Automobile Club and St. Luke's Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, retiring in December 1978.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Marion, where she was active as a deacon, Stephens Ministry, primary department, Sunday school, Kitchen Band and Chancel Chimes.
