A private family burial will be held at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Helen was born on Nov. 18, 1934, in Mankato, Minn., to John and Frances (Rankl) Salfer. After graduating from Our Lady of Good Council Academy for girls, Helen attended the College of Medical Technology for two years in Minneapolis. After graduating, Helen worked as a lab technician at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Mankato. After marrying Hugo Kann on Sept. 12, 1956, Helen moved to Marion, Iowa, where the couple lived for all of the 66 years of their married lives.
In the early years of her marriage, Helen worked as a Lab Technician at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Then, from the early 1970s on, Helen was actively involved for 24 years in the family’s apartment rental business. During that time, she took turns serving as secretary and treasurer of the Metropolitan Housing Association and was a member of the Marion Housing Board of Appeals. For recreation, Helen created some beautiful, cross-stitched embroidery; she also enjoyed playing Bridge with her many friends.
Helen is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 66 years, Hugo Kann; the couple’s three children, Cynthia (Scott) Berntsen, Gregory (Andrea) Kann and Heidi Green; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Rudolf; two sisters, Elenore and Marion; and the couple’s infant daughter, Sandra Marie.
