Surviving Helen are her children, David (Joan) and Keith (Linda), both of Mount Vernon, and Linda (Earl) Freese of Howe, Texas; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Mullaley.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Faye Pitlik; and a brother, Ralph Light.
Helen was born on the family farm in Lisbon on May 3, 1922, the daughter of Roy E. and Grace M. Novak Light. Helen graduated from Lisbon High School in 1940, and worked as a waitress in the Holiday House Restaurant from 1955 to 1962. After her marriage to Vernon Burge on April 16, 1942, she worked as a busy farm wife and mother.
She was a member of the Mount Vernon First Presbyterian Church and several women's clubs.
Helen was a serious woman who was a great cook and enjoyed gardening and crafts. Helen and Vernon were "winter" Texans and enjoyed summer fishing trips with neighbors, friends and family.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Mechanicsville Care and Rehabilitation Center and Care Initiatives Hospice of Cedar Rapids for the compassionate care provided to our mother.
