Helen L. Brenner, 82, of Cedar Rapids, died at her home early Monday, July 6, 2015. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Friday at Saint Jude Catholic Church by the Rev. Mark Reasoner. Burial will follow at Saint John's Cemetery. Friends may call at the church after 9 a.m. Friday. Papich-Kuba Funeral Service is serving the family.
Helen is survived by four children, Greg (Jacquelynn Hinzman) Brenner, Cedar Rapids, Rose (Tom) Allison, Ely, David (Amy Martin) Brenner, Cedar Rapids, and Vanessa (Shawn) Connors, Marion; and six grandchildren, Derek, Christy, Jenny, Dusty, Aaron and Heather.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; daughter, Theresa Carpenter; and her mother, Hattie M. Burwell.
Helen was born Jan. 3, 1933, in Madrid, Iowa, and had lived in Cedar Rapids for many years. She married Donald F. Brenner on July 7, 1952, at Saint Ludmila's Catholic Church. Donald died July 31, 2000.
Helen was a member of Saint Jude Catholic Church. Over the years, she raised several foster children in her home. Helen enjoyed sewing, vegetable and flower gardening and camping. She also liked to travel with her husband, especially their trip to England. Helen enjoyed television, particularly watching old movies and westerns.
A memorial fund has been established and donations may be sent to Vanessa Connors, 2651 Regal Court A3, Marion,
IA 52302.
