Helen B. Akers, 73, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Dec. 16, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Memorial service: 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Inurnment: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Bob Sr.; children, Ken (Amy) Akers of Ankeny, April (Drew) Tiedtke of Oconomowoc, Wis., and Bob Akers Jr. and Rich (Heather) Akers, both of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren, Samantha, Bridget, Hank, Abigail, Noah, Simon, Payton, Harrison and Zoey; sister, JoAnn (Erv) Petersen of Reinbeck; and her nieces and nephews.
She was welcomed to heaven by her parents; daughter, Sandy; grandson, Marvin Tiedtke; brother, Clarence Pisarik; and niece, Mary Ann Petersen.
Helen was born Nov. 29, 1943, the daughter of Joseph "Pete" and Mabel (VanAntwerp) Pisarik, in Muscatine, Iowa. On Nov. 26, 1960, she was united in marriage to Robert Akers Sr. at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Central City. Helen enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom. She was very active attending her children's and grandchildren's activities. Helen also enjoyed volunteering at Taft Middle School and with the marching band at Jefferson High School.
Memorials may be directed to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in memory of Helen.
