Helen Agnes Coppock, 99, of Cedar Rapids passed away August 29, 2025, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House. A private funeral mass will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Burial will follow the funeral mass at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at Keystone Place at a later date.
Helen was born August 29, 1926, on a farm near Arlington, IA, daughter of Peter and Nora (Simmons) Hartin.
In 1944, she graduated from St. John's High School in Victor, IA. She later went on to attend training school for Western Union in Fargo, ND and worked in both Chicago, IL and Oakland, CA. She returned to Cedar Rapids and was employed by Bell Telephone Company. She married Melvin Coppock at Immaculate Conception Church in Cedar Rapids in 1947, and together they raised four children. During that time, she was employed by Collins Radio Company and United States Bank. In 1972, they bought the Health Hut Food Store, which they owned and operated for seven years.
During 62 years of marriage, Helen and Melvin spent much of their time working together on their many investment properties. Helen greatly enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and enjoyed hosting many family gatherings. In retirement, Helen and Melvin were able to travel and enjoy trips to Ireland, Alaska and Hawaii.
She is survived by her children: Loren (Patti) Coppock of Cedar Rapids; Marsha (Herb) Plimpton of San Francisco, CA; Julie (Jim) Stepanek of Cedar Rapids, and daughter-in-law Mary Coppock of Marion, IA; grandchildren, John (Emily) Coppock of Manhasset, NY, Kate (Jack) Middleton of Iowa City, IA, Ryan (Leticia) Hallerud of San Francisco, CA, Sean (Sylvie) Hallerud of New York, NY, Trisha (Jeff) McClure of Waukee, IA, Michelle (Patrick) Hanifin of Madison, WI, and Peter Stepanek of Durham, NC; step-grandchildren, Kevin (Denise) Doyle of Denver, CO, Michael Doyle of Cedar Rapids, Jennie (Kenny) Benke of Marion, IA; as well as thirteen great-grandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Melvin, son Mark, and ten siblings.
Her last fifteen years were spent enjoying her life with her many dear friends at Keystone Place in Cedar Rapids. A special thanks to her wonderful caregivers, Terri, Avery, Sherry, Raina, Makayla, Annika, and Jenna.
Memorials may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, or the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha, IA.
