Heitzman, Edna V. Ruppert
Edna V. Ruppert Heitzman, 98, of Iowa City, died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, at the Iowa City Health and Rehab Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, where visitation will be one hour before the service. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City.
Edna V. Watkinson was born Feb. 13, 1913, in rural Johnson County, the daughter of Ovie O. and Elizabeth (Slaughter) Watkinson. She was united in marriage to Woodrow H. Ruppert on Aug. 21, 1933. The couple lived many years in Forest Lake, Minn. Mr. Ruppert passed away Oct. 28, 1967. She later married Paul Heitzman on July 3, 1976. Paul died March 28, 2002. Edna worked as a bookkeeper and payroll clerk at Aldens Department Store for many years. She also was an ambulance escort for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for many years.
Her family includes two stepsons; Dick Heitzman (Becky) and Beill Heitzman (Deb), both of Hills; seven stepgrandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; brothers, Walter Watkinson (Dorothy) of Riverside and Evan Watkinson (Norma) of West Branch; sister, Shirley King (Ron) of Iowa City; and sister-in-law, Naomi Watkinson of Council Bluffs.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; stepson, Thomas Heitzman; stepdaughter and her husband, Marge and Dennis (Pinky) Hamilton; stepdaughter-in-law, Nancy Heitzman; brother, Pearl O. Watkinson; and two sisters, Alice Gerot Matthes and Mary Gerot.
