Heim, Steven R. 'Skinny'
Steven R. “Skinny” Heim, 56, of Lansing, died Monday morning, Jan. 16, 2012, at his residence in Lansing. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 20, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing. The Rev. John Moser will officiate at the service. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Thornburg-DeVries Funeral Home in Lansing, where there will be a 3 p.m. parish Scripture service. Interment will be at Gethsemane Cemetery, Lansing.

Steve was born Feb. 23, 1955, to Donald and Alice Behrends Heim. He graduated from Kee High School in 1973. On Sept. 20, 1975, he married Rita Ferring. In 1976 they moved to Cedar Rapids, where he worked at Delaney and Kelly Construction for 10 years. In 1986, he returned to Lansing and started his own concrete construction company, which he owned and operated for 25 years.
He served as a Lansing City Councilman, volunteer fireman and was a marina board member. He enjoyed deer hunting and spending time at his cabin.
He is survived by his wife, Rita; two daughters, Stephanie (Shane) Schellsmidt of Dubuque, and Megan (Matt) Troendle of Lansing; five grandchildren, Carter and Cael Schellsmidt, and Riley, Regan and Rowan Troendle; his mother, Alice Heim of Lansing; three sisters, Donna, Connie and Jeannie; and three brothers, Don, Tim and Ron.
He was preceded in death by his father; brother, Gary; father and mother-in-law, Joe and Alma Ferring; and eight Ferring brother and sisters-in-law.
