Hazel Marie Stien, 94, of Newhall, died April 9, 2015, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, April 13, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Newhall, with the Rev. Craig Steimel as celebrant. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday also at the church in Newhall, where a rosary will be recited at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be in St. Patrick and St. Paul Cemetery near Watkins.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Mercy.
Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.
Hazel was born Feb. 3, 1921, in Watkins, to John and Mary (Maag) Schmidt. She was a proud graduate of Norway High School class of 1939 and Paris Beauty Academy. On Nov. 27, 1943, she married Delbert F. Stien in Watkins.
Hazel is survived by her children, John (Joan) of Newhall and Jean of Scottsdale, Ariz.; her grandchildren, Darrel J. of Newhall and Janelle (Jon) Price of Phoenix; her great-grandchildren, Tori Stien, Alexandra, Isaac and Isaiah Price; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 2005, her brother, Clifford, and sisters, Viola and Pearl.
She was a 75-year member of the Ladies Catholic Order of Foresters, American Legion Auxiliary and former member of the Eagles.
Hazel enjoyed her flowers and yard, dancing, playing cards, wintering in Arizona and socializing with everyone she met.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be sorely missed.
