Hazel Leona Persels, 84, of Anamosa, formerly of Oxford Junction, passed away Jan. 28, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. To honor Hazel's life, a visitation will be held at Lahey Funeral Home in Oxford
Junction beginning at
3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, with a funeral service to follow at 4 p.m. Burial will be at Mayflower Cemetery in Oxford Junction following the service.
Hazel was born July 22, 1931, in Milo, Iowa. She married Dwaine Persels in 1952 at Simpson Methodist Church in Des Moines.
Hazel was a member of United Methodist Church in Oxford Junction. She worked doing tax preparation for 30 years.
She enjoyed reading, knitting and having coffee with her neighbors. She also enjoyed going to Arizona in the winter and spending time with her grandkids.
She is survived by her husband, Dwaine Persels; two daughters, Jo Ellen (Steven) Benn of Rapid City, S.D., and Sally Lu (Len) Clapp of Anamosa; one son, Michael Dwaine (Lisa) Persels of Tiffin; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, two sisters and one granddaughter, Rachel.
