Hayslett, Lorraine
Lorraine Hayslett, 84, of Burlington, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died at 2:50 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at Bickford Cottage in Burlington.
Born June 24, 1925, in Aurora, Ill., she was the daughter of Jesse and Madeline Evans Carpenter. On Oct. 2, 1945, she married Allen R. Hayslett in Chicago. He died July 9, 1995.
During the war years Lorraine lived in Chicago, where she worked in a lens factory. She lived most of her life in Cedar Rapids but moved to Phoenix when her husband retired. Lorraine loved to cook for her family and take care of her lawn and garden. The family always took summer vacations in their camper. She and her husband traveled the United States, as well as trips to Spain and Bavaria and cruises to Acapulco, Hawaii and Tahiti. Lorraine loved to sew. She made baby layettes and stuffed animals for the hospitals in Cedar Rapids and Phoenix.
Survivors include one son, Larry A. (Dawn) Hayslett of Burlington; two granddaughters, Maya (Dan Haug) Hayslett of Madison, Wis., and Kali (Andy Lamont) Hayslett of Des Moines; one great-grandson, Leif Haug; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Donald and Ervin Carpenter; and one sister, Jean Yauneridge.
As per the request of Mrs. Hayslett, cremation has been accorded.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 29, at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home, 3940 Division St., Burlington. A memorial service for Mrs. Hayslett will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Kali Hayslett officiating. A luncheon will be held at the Hass-Thielen Community Room following the service.
