Hawthorn, Judy A. 'Rife'
Judy A. “Rife” Hawthorn, 74, of 1860 Fifth Ave., Marion, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids following a courageous battle with cancer. Celebration of Life Services will be Saturday, Aug. 18, at 11 a.m. at the Marion Town Square Depot and will be immediately followed by a luncheon. The family also will greet friends for one hour before the service at the depot. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion.
Survivors include her husband, Harry of Marion; her children, Mike (Laura) Hotz of Brandon and Karla Hotz Armstrong of Marion; six stepchildren; a sister, Janet; five brothers; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many other loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Brenda; a brother; a sister; and a stepson, Dan.
Judy was born June 15, 1938, the daughter of Harold and Virginia (Klien) Johnson in Montezuma, Iowa. She married Harry J. Hawthorn on Sept. 11, 2004. Judy worked as a CNA/OMT in the Marion and Cedar Rapids area for over 45 years.
Judy was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church and an auxiliary member of the DAV, VFW, and American Legion. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed crocheting and crafts, but her greatest love of all was her grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Judy.
