Hawkes, Michael Allen
Michael Allen Hawkes, 66, of South Amana, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012. Graveside Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at South Amana Cemetery, with Elder Harold Pitz officiating. Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Middle Amana Community Church, Middle Amana. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is in charge of arrangements.
Michael is survived by his wife, Deborah; two daughters, Chanda Adams and husband Keven of Maryville, Mo., and Deanna Oujiri and husband Steven of Lakeville, Minn.; five grandchildren, Jacob, Alana and Aaron Adams, and Connor and Ellen Oujiri; and his mother, Dorothy Jane Nagel Hawkes of High Amana.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Michael Allen Hawkes was born Oct. 22, 1945, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He attended the Amana schools and graduated from Amana High School with the class of 1964. Michael served with the U.S. Army Reserves for six years. He married Deborah Roggentine on Jan. 20, 1968, at Trinity United Church of Christ, rural Marengo. Michael was employed as a design engineer with Amana Refrigeration.
He was a member of the Amana Church Society and served on the board of directors for the Amana Arts Guild. Michael enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and photography in his free time.
A memorial fund has been established.
