Hawanda "Dolly" Winnifred Purk, 97, of Belle Plaine, Iowa, passed away Dec. 31, 2020, at Belle Plaine Specialty Care.
Dolly was born Aug. 14, 1923, to Oscar and Winnifred (Wright) Basket in Iowa City, Iowa. She graduated from City High in Iowa City. Dolly married Robert Charles Purk on May 25, 1948. The couple moved to Cedar Rapids for a short time before eventually moving to Irving, Iowa, where they raised their children and together began Purk's Garage.
Dolly enjoyed stamp collecting, reading and jigsaw puzzles. Together Dolly and Robert liked to fish, go to the casino to play bingo and, most of all, they loved to travel.
She is survived by her sons, Don (Nancy) Purk of Irving and Ron Purk of Des Moines; daughter, Kay McElhannon of Crescent City, Calif.; daughters-in-law, Kim Purk of Belle Plaine and Monique Davis of Hot Springs, Ark.; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and hree great-great grandchildren, and one on the way.
Dolly was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert (2008); sons, Tim, Ray and Jim Purk; infant son, Petey; great-grandchildren, Kieran Kramer and Tiana Purk; sister, Susan Basket; and daughter-in-law, Melody Purk.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, at Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service with Pastor Leanna Van Zandt Nauman officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior at the funeral home. A private family graveside service will follow at Irving Cemetery, Irving. Memorials may be directed to the family. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.neuhausfuneralservice.com.
