Hatfield, Fern M.
Fern M. Hatfield, 95, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009, following a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Ellis Park Church of God. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Surviving are her niece, Rita Moore of Vinton; and nephews, Dwight Sanders of Vinton, and Doyle Sanders of Johnston. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles; sister, Culah; brother, Fay; and an infant sister.
Fern Mildred Hatfield was born June 11, 1914, in Linn County, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Cora (McVay) Evens. She was married to Charles Hatfield in 1940, he preceded her in death in 1988. She was employed as an industrial property inspector by the United States Government for many years.
Aunt Fern's greatest joy was time spent with her family at gatherings and vacations. She enjoyed league bowling, going out with family and friends, which she was still enjoying just before her death. She will forever be remembered for being full of life up until her passing. She was a loving aunt to many and friend who will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Fern's honor may be made to the Oak Grove Church Youth Center.
