Hasley, Eldon
Eldon Hasley, 78, of Fairfax, passed on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at St. Ludmila's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. A private family inurnment will be at a later date in Czech National Cemetery.
Eldon was born Feb. 1, 1935, in Norway, the son of Eldo J. and Rosetta (Chalupsky) Hasley. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1953. Eldon earned a wrestling scholarship at the University of Iowa, lettering in 1955. He joined the United States Army from 1957-1959, and was a member of the 100 First Airborn. He married Mary M. Shipman on Jan. 15, 1962, at St. Ludmila's Catholic Church.
Eldon is survived by his wife, Mary; his children, Richard (Amy) Hasley and Cynthia Hasley, both of Fairfax, and Laurie (Alan) Harper of Keswick; four grandchildren, Rachael Foley, Clay Harper, Ashley Hasley and Travis Hasley; and a sister, Darlene (Art) Holtkamp of Harlingen, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
