Harvey Lee Fredrick Borcherding, 78, of Garnavillo, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 13, 2017.
He was born Nov. 25, 1938, on the family farm in rural Guttenberg, the son of Delbert and Viola (Kregel) Borcherding. Harvey attended Walke Country School and later attended and graduated from Guttenberg High School, with the Class of 1956. On June 18, 1960, Harvey was united in marriage with Eldoris Noeding at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Garnavillo, and the couple was later blessed with three daughters.
Over the years, Harvey worked for numerous creameries and eventually retired from Swiss Valley Farms.
In his free time, Harvey enjoyed fishing, woodworking and gardening, of which he was especially known for his gladiolas.
Harvey will forever be loved and cherished by his wife of 56 years, Eldoris; three daughters, Marilee (Larry) Peters of Marion and JoAnn (Doug) Nelson and Shirley (Curtis) Kraetsch, both of Cedar Rapids; two grandsons, Colin and Riley Peters; three siblings, Darlene (Lyle) Glawe of Garnavillo and Jan (Jim) Solomon and Dennis Borcherding, both of Guttenberg; and many other relatives and friends.
Harvey was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bernell Borcherding.
Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, 001 S. Industrial Park Rd. in Garnavillo. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 15, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home in Guttenberg and one hour before services at the church. Funeral service will be at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garnavillo, at 11 a.m. Friday, June 16. The Rev. Gary Hatcher will officiate. Interment will be at Garnavillo Community Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers and other types of sympathy, memorials are preferred and can be sent to 104 W. Harrison St., Garnavillo, IA 52049 in Harvey's memory.
